Submissions open to all members of NWABP
We are producing the NWABP eGuide for Independent Publishers that will be published on a flash drive. The initial launch of the eGuide will be at Wordstock, October 9-10, 2010. We will give away a number of copies of the eGuide as a raffle prize.
Please consider submitting an article on your experiences as an Independent Publisher or service provider to the industry. If we use your story, you'll get free advertising. Read on for details.
Article Submission Guidelines
Authors submitting articles to the NWABP eGuide for Independent Publishers will have an accompanying 2" x 3.5" ad space on the first page of their submission and a 3" x 5" ad in the back. You will supply the ads as 120 dpi .jpgs. The topics listed below are only suggestions. We are looking for articles on almost any area of publishing. You may submit as many articles as you would like, but submission does not guarantee acceptance. Author's reserve and retain all copyrights to their articles, but NWABP reserves the right to publish them on our web site, blog or for advertising. If you have multiple articles accepted you can run an ad with each article, but only one in the back of the book.
The purpose of our eGuide is to educate and encourage people considering or continuing independent publishing. It will also serve as a promotional tool for both NWABP and contributors. Combining an ad with an educational article is effective marketing. We are looking for quality articles with content that is informational and well thought out. Articles with grammatical or spelling errors will be rejected. If your article is rejected, you can resubmit for approval with errors corrected. If errors are not corrected in the 2nd submission, it will not be reconsidered for approval again. Previously published work is welcome as long as it is your article. Your goal should be to educate and inform rather than self promote. Ads should meet the same high standards. Advertising without an article will be offered for $25 for a 3" x 5" ad at the back of the collection.
Submit articles as .doc (Word 2003 or earlier), .rtf, or .txt files and images as 120 dpi actual size .jpgs. Manuscript length should be between 500 and 2500 words. The final book will be in PDF format and distributed on a memory stick and available for download from our website. Be sure your article and ad are both received by the deadline which is August 1, 2010. Send a zipped file with the document and any artwork to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Create articles that are useful to those interested in independent publishing and written in a clear and concise manner. Although this is an appropriate place to talk about a bad experience with a vendor, it is not appropriate to use it as a rave. Simply explain the circumstances of the event to help others avoid a similar bad experience. Include 'how to' articles, tips, strategies, techniques, and personal experiences that have helped you become a better publisher. If you offer a service, explain how it is important to publishers. If you are an expert at social networking, explain it so even technophobes can understand. This is a great advertising opportunity for those who have been in the industry for a while as well as those who are building their companies. Think about what you learned the hard way so others may have a little easier journey and we can all continue to grow through this transitional time in the world of publishing.
